o-Phenetidine Usage And Synthesis
Chemical Propertiesdeep red liquid
Usesmanufacture of dyes.
DefinitionChEBI: o-Phenetidine is a substituted aniline and an aromatic ether. It is used in the manufacture of acetophenetidin.
Preparationo-Phenetidine is produced from 2- ethoxynitrobenzene by reduction with iron or by catalytic hydrogenation in the presence of precious-metal catalysts or Raney nickel.
General DescriptionReddish brown oily liquid.
Air & Water Reactionso-Phenetidine is very sensitive to exposure to light and air. . Slightly soluble in water.
Reactivity Profileo-Phenetidine neutralizes acids in exothermic reactions to form salts plus water. May be incompatible with isocyanates, halogenated organics, peroxides, phenols (acidic), epoxides, anhydrides, and acid halides. Flammable gaseous hydrogen may be generated in combination with strong reducing agents, such as hydrides.
Fire Hazardo-Phenetidine is probably combustible.
Safety ProfileModerately toxic by ingestion. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic vapors of NOx.
