Uses | 4,4′-Dipyridyl N,N′-dioxide may be used:- as bidentate ligand in the preparation of co-ordination polymers of terbium(III)
- as ligand in the preparation of 2D CuII complex, with a stacked wavelike structure, and 3D materials, with CoII and NiII
- in the preparation of a Mg-based luminescent MIL-53 metal-organic framework (MOF)

General Description | 4,4′-Dipyridyl N,N′-dioxide reacts with various transition-metal salts in MeOH to afford a range of coordination polymers with 1-D chain and 2-D sheet architectures incorporating 36-hxl and 44-sql topologies. 4,4′-Dipyridyl N,N′-dioxide is reported to undergo hydrothermal reaction with d(10) metal ions (Cd2+ and Zn2+) to form three-dimensional grid-like coordination polymers. The electron density of the halogen-bonded complex of 4,4′-dipyridyl-N,N′-dioxide with 1,4-diiodotetrafluorobenzene at 90K has been studied by X-ray diffraction. |
